Alan Bingham - President Santa Clarita Track Club
Alan is the founder and president of the Santa Clarita Track Club, Alan has been
involved with track and field for 28 years when his children first started, now
his grandchildren are on the team. He has been timing track meets back as far as
he can remember. As the founder of Santa Clarita Track Club 10 years ago he
wanted to start a program that was specifically for Track & Field athletes. As
president of the corporation, his primary duties and responsibilities are to
manage the club's business.
Alan still over sees the timing of the Santa Clarita Track Club events, from
track meets, cross country meets, or SOAR's 5k run Mardi Gras Madness.
Santa Clarita Track Club has 3 divisions, Track & Field, Cross Country, and SOAR
(Students off and Running).
Santa Clarita Track Club has approximately 500 athletes that it serves every
year.
Alan has ran 9 marathons and 3 half marathons. When he's not at a Storm event,
he's out on his Harley Davidson Motorcycle touring the back roads with his wife
Elaine.
Alan has 5 adult children and 13 grandchildren. Alan has been married to Elaine
Bingham for 38 years.
Mark Cruz - Director, Track & Field
Mark begins his 5th year with The Storm Track Club. After four years as the
Gremlin head coach, he has now taken on a new role as the Director of Track and
Field.
As the Gremlin coach, Mark introduced kids to the fundamentals of Track & Field
with a philosophy of strong work ethic, self discipline and goal setting. These
skill sets are fun, competitive and social, while developing their self
confidence and knowledge to the importance of a health and fitness program.
His goal is that athletes apply this philosophy to all aspects of their everyday
life, as well as develop a higher standard of achievement in other sports and
academics.
During his college years, Mark was a member of The Santa Monica Track Club, most
famous for producing countless Olympic athletes like Carl Lewis, Johnny Gray,
Steve Lewis and Kevin Young. In his 10 years with SMTC, he competed in events
such as the 1500m, 3000m, 5000m and Marathons.
Mark is married to Lillian (also known as the Team Candy Mom) and currently has
two children in the program: Cameron (Midgets) and Madison (Bantams). Madison
recently competed in the post season Cross Country team with Valley United
Striders that brought home a National Title for the Sub-Bantam division.
Elaine Bingham - Track & Field Head Coach
Coach Bingham is entering her seventh year of coaching with Storm. She has
been coaching youth track and field for over 28 years. She started coaching her
4 kids in another program and was instrumental in creating the Canyon Country
team in 1994. She has served in the Valley Youth conference as League President
and Commissioner of Track and Field. She has also coached at the high school
level at Canyon High School. Coach Bingham has attended countless coaching
clinics to continue to learn and teach the sport. She is starting her second
generation coaching with her grandkids.
Coach Bingham has completed 19 marathon and countless other races, she began
running in 1994 a gift that was giving to her by her children's interest in
Track & Cross Country. As a child Elaine had Polio and was told she would never
run. She is very thankful they were wrong.
When she is not coaching Track she spends most of her time with her family, 5
adult children, and 13 grand children. She enjoys Duke Basketball! and riding on
the back of her Harley Davidson Motorcycle with her husband of 38 years Alan.
They have toured most of the southwest.
Coaching Track & Field is her passion and she enjoys the success of every
member on the Storm Team.

Rodney Hupalo - Youth & Intermediate Head Coach, & Assistant
Track Head Coach
Bio:
Responsible for the youth and intermediate age groups, Coach Rodney returns for
his sixth season in a coaching capacity for the Storm. A former member of the
West Valley Eagles, Rodney went on to success at Crespi High School (Encino)
where he competed in both hurdle events, long jump and 4 x400 relay (including
braking the school record in the 300m hurdles) before being offered an athletic
scholarship to run at California Lutheran University.
He is currently a USA Track and Field Level One Certified Coach and has helped
guide Storm athletes to seven different National Championships (USATF & AAU)
where they garnished two top-three finishes, four top-10 finishes and three
All-America recognitions.
When not at the track, Coach Rodney can usually be found in his backyard at the
BBQ trying to convince his family that smoking is better than gas, watching
track meets on TV or taking his two daughters to concerts. Yes, he has seen the
Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, Cody Simpson, Demi Lovato and Justin Bieber (twice)
before passing the torch to his wife for One Direction.

Martin Rubio - Youth & Intermediate Assistant Coach
This is Martin's first year with the Storm Track Club. He was part of The
Valley Raiders Track Club coaching staff for 4 yrs. He has completed LA84s
"Coaching Education Curriculum" 2013 and has been an assistant coach for an AYSO
team for 2yrs. he has played Basketball & Football for Oxnard High and currently
play Soccer for the Valley Eagles. His goals are to assist the Storm Track
Club coaching staff provide a safe and healthy environment for youth athletes to
compete and grow.
Martin is married to a wonderful woman Nicole Rubio. He has two great kids,
Dejiana who attends OPSU on a volleyball scholarship and Jaiden who runs track,
plays soccer, gymnastics & sings. Martin likes to spend his time with his
parents, family & friends, Bbq, ride dirt motorcycles, play sports, watch sports
and learn new things. Martin has worked in the Automotive Refinish
Industry for over 20yrs.
Rocky Turner - Midget Head Coach
For the past two years Coach Turner has assisted Coach Rodney in the youth and
intermediate age group before being moved to head coach of the Midget Division.
She has also coached at the high school level at her alma mater, Notre Dame High
School, for three years before she started her family.
At ND she competed in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays, the 200m and the 400m, where
she broke and held the school 400m record for over a decade. She continued to
run for two years at the college level until her knees gave out.
In the summer of 2013, she volunteered at Saugus High School as the Freshman
Football conditioning coach. This inspired her to start the certification
process for the USA Track and Field Level One Certification Program.
When coach Turner is not chasing down children on the track, she is most likely
cooking, driving, or cleaning up after her six children and amazing husband,
Jeff. In her "spare" time, Coach Turner runs a non-profit called Mothers
Fighting For Others, which gives her the opportunity to fly to Kenya a few times
a year. She takes this time to take care of her other 40+ children at Saint
Monica Children's Home for Girls.
Shannon Schmidt - Midget Assistant Coach
Enrique Caballero - Midget Assistant Coach
Enrique Caballero is back for his third season assisting Midgets. Motivated to
coach because he wanted to bond with his daughter, who now is in Youth, his two
boys are now in the mix, one Gremlin and one Midget. In High School, Enrique ran
cross country and indoor track (200m) before finding his passion in the field
events, where he became captain, competing in the Triple Jump and Javelin.
Enrique is an executive for Universal Studios Hollywood where he coaches big
kids during the day. His new athletic passion is participating in triathlons,
especially the Malibu Triathlon where he and his NBCU team raises funds for
Children's Hospital of Los Angeles.
Chris Fernandez - Midget Assistant Coach
Marvin Perkins - Midget Assistant Coach
Assisting the midget age group, Coach Marvin Perkins is returning for his second
year as a Storm Coach, having worked last year with the Gremlin age kids.
A former New Yorker and athlete in swimming, diving, football and basketball,
Coach Marvin starting running track as a high school sophomore only to increase
his speed for football. He competed in the sprint events of 100, 200 and 4x100
relay and his high school team went undefeated for all three years of his time
on the team.
In his spare time, Marvin runs a national and international outreach program and
lectures throughout the country and globally relative to his outreach efforts.
Coach Marvin enjoys time with his wife, son and his two daughters, both of which
are returning for their second year on Storm. He works as regional sales
director for IBM and is excited for another incredible track season.
Chris Schauble - Bantams Head Coach
For the second year Chris Schauble is Head Coach for the Storm Bantam age group.
His coaching mottos are "Your child will have fun and reach his or her
potential" and "We break records"! Don't be surprised if you hear the second
motto a lot.
Chris grew up with competitive sports and competed in the AAU Junior Olympics
as a sprinter. As an adult, he found a love for distance sports and earned the
title of three-time Ironman having completed the 140.6 mile competitions in
Arizona, New York, and the Ironman World Championships in Kona Hawaii.
Chris is a graduate of LA84's coaching clinic... Specializing in sprint events.
He also credits mentor Charles Clinton (USATF Coach for Junior Elite Athletics)
for his continued growth as a coach.
If Chris Schauble looks a bit familiar, it's no surprise. When he's not coaching
with Storm, he's anchoring the KTLA 5 Morning News from 4-7am.
Jamal Thompson - Bantam Assistant Coach
Responsible for the bantam age group, Coach Jamal Thompson returns for his third
season in an assistant coaching capacity for Storm.
Being a former high school and collegiate athlete himself, Jamal realizes the
benefits youth athletics provides to kids and enjoys watching them grow in
confidence as they set new personal bests and master new skills and techniques.
When not coaching, Jamal enjoys playing board games with his family and good
southern cooking.
Cynthia Monjoy - Bantam Assistant Coach
Coach Cynthia is returning for her second year as the Bantam's assistant coach.
She enjoyed working with all the Storm families and coaches so much she had to
return for more track fun.
Cynthia grew up here in Santa Clarita when there was more kale and onion fields
than people. She inherited her family's love for track and ran for the Warriors.
(There was no Storm Track back then.) Later, she was a sprinter and long jumper
for Saugus High School.
Working with kids keeps Coach Cynthia young at heart. She spends her days
teaching 6th grade at Valencia Valley Elementary. At night, she gets her grove
on at Zumba.
Justin Scott - Bantam Assistant
This is Coach Scott's first year as an Assistant Coach with the Storm.
Coach Scott ran track for the Northridge Knights from Age 8-10. He continued to
run track each year through his junior year in high school, as well as play
basketball. He ran the 100, 200, and anchored the 4x100 relay. In his junior
year he competed in high jump for the first time and finished second in the
league finals (in Washington State). His family moved back to California and he
went to Saugus High School his senior year, but did not play sports.
He played basketball at College of the Canyons for two seasons before
transferring to UC Davis where he played one season of Rugby. He graduated with
a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from UC Davis.
He head coached youth basketball for four seasons through the Santa Clarita
Parks & Recreation Program. His boys went undefeated in his final season
coaching. He was an assistant coach with the Santa Clarita Warriors football
program.
When Coach Scott is not coaching, he is spending time with family and friends.
he enjoys camping, traveling, sports, and the outdoors.
Beckie Warloe - Gremlins Head Coach
Beckie has been coaching track and field for the past 10 years but this is her
first season with Storm. She will be our new head coach for the Gremlins
Beckie started her running career at Placerita Jr High. She continued her career
at Valencia High where she specialized in the 800, 400, and 4x4 relay. After
graduating Valencia she ran at COC where she went to state in the 400. Beckie
started coaching track 10 years ago with Special Olympics. In 2010 she went to
National games with Special Olympics and has an athlete going to Nationals this
year. She has also coached SOAR for 4 years. In Beckies spare time she loves to
run half marathons (NY marathon 2011, LA marathon 2010-2013, and CIM 2013),
spend a day on the lake or in the desert riding her dirt bike. She all enjoys
coaching SNAP (special needs athletes and peers) Ice Hockey and football.
Lisa Haugen - Gremlin Assistant Coach
Lisa ran high school 400, 800 and 4x4 in Oregon. Moved from Oregon with
husband Barry and son Sam 2 years ago. Lisa has 6 children, all have been
involved in running. Her oldest daughter ran track and cross country for
University of Oregon.
Lisa has worked as a Pediatric Nurse for years and loves working with the young
kids.
She still does a lot of recreational running, her favorite distance is the half
marathon. She ran 14 last year.

Olivia Cantu - Gremlin Assistant Coach
Olivia has been competing in Track and Field since '07. She began her track
career in middle school at Del Sur and has continued to compete as a sprinter
and long jumper at Valencia High School. She will continue to compete in college
and volunteer to train and coach others. She was given the award for Most
Valuable Athlete in 2012 and 2013. Olivia had the opportunity to train
with Maurice Greene, a 5-time world champion and holder of 4 Olympic gold
medals. It's is her first year of coaching. She hopes to be a great help to
Storm now, and in the future.
William Humphries - Gremlins
Will Humphries hails from Indianapolis where he was 2-time Conference Champion,
City Champion, and state finalist in the 400m and 800m runs. He was the Indiana
state runner-up in the 400m dash as a high school senior. Will accepted an
athletic scholarship to Jackson State University and was a member of the
cross-country team and the track & field team where competed in the 400m, 800m,
1600m relay. Following his strong desire to work in the entertainment industry,
Will eventually transferred to California State University at Northridge where
he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Cinema and Television Arts. Will is currently
earning his MBA at the University of La Verne. This will be Will’s third season
assisting the Gremlins.
When not working with the Gremlins, Will can be found studying, writing, or
hanging out with his wife, Kim, and two daughters, Meagan and Morgan.

Matt Jordan - Head Shot Put Coach
Coach Matt is excited to be returning for his second season with Storm Track
Club as shot put coach.
Coach Matt began throwing the shot put as a youth in Orange County. Both his
grandfather and father competed in the throwing events and helped him develop
strength and technique for the shot. Coach Matt attended Dana Hills High School
and threw both the shot and discus. He broke the school record in the shot put
his junior year and competed in the California State meet his senior year. Coach
Matt earned an athletic scholarship to California State University Northridge
where he competed in the shot put, discus, and hammer.
While at Northridge, Coach Matt had the opportunity to coach two elite high
school athletes in the throwing events and helped them achieve personal records.
Coaching for Storm last year inspired him to train and compete again at the
Master’s Level and he finished the 2013 season with the top shot put mark in the
state for his age group.
Coach Matt and his wife are the proud parents of two boys who will compete at
the Midget and Bantam level this season. He works full time as the Corporate
Security Director of a Pasadena based engineering firm and teaches part time at
the University of Phoenix. When not coaching or working, Coach Matt and his
family enjoy spending time with friends and family, traveling, and visiting
various Southern California attractions – especially Disneyland!
Kyle McMullen - Assistant Shot Put Coach
Kyle threw the Javelin and Discus at San Diego State. As a High School student He
was a member of a Junior USA track & field team who traveled to Germany and
other parts of Europe to compete in a world Jr meet against top Athletes!
Curtis Smith - Head Long Jump Coach
Bio: Curtis Smith returns for his second season of coaching the long jump with
the Storm. While relatively new to coaching, he has one year of experience as a
volunteer jumps coach with the University of Tulsa. He also spent one summer
volunteering with his former USATF youth track club in Wilmington, Delaware. The
bulk of his experience stems from his ten years as a track and field competitor.
Coach Curtis was a NCAA Division 1 track and field athlete at the College of
William & Mary in Virginia where he primarily competed in the triple jump, long
jump and 400 meter run. He earned IC4A All-East honors in the triple jump in
2003 and several all-conference honors during his collegiate jumping career. He
graduated from W&M with a business degree in Information Technology.
Corey Fredrickson - Long Jump Assistant
Corey is entering his fifth year being an assistant coach, this year he will be
assisting Long Jump.
Corey ran Cross Country and Track at Burbank High School and was a member of the
JV CIF Foothill League Championships Cross Country Team.
Corey looks forward to this years track season helping the kids reach their
potential and having fun along the way.

John Lin - Co-Head Hurdles
This is John’s third season coaching hurdles. John has been a resident of
Santa Clarita since 1986. John and his wife Lisa met at Saugus High School. They
have two children Blake and Natalie who have been participating in the Storm
track club for the past 5 years.
As a High School sophomore, John was introduced to hurdles and quickly grew to
love and respect the challenging event. John left Saugus High School as league
champion in both the 110 High Hurdles and 330 Intermediate Hurdles. John
continued his love of Track & Field in College Men's 110m Hurdles and 400m
Hurdles.
Jeremy Stepan - Head Distance
Responsible for the distance program, both track and cross-country. He is
starting his 7th track season and has been privileged to work with 100's of
amazing athletes. Many of the top high school athletes in our valley got their
start with Storm.
Whether you are aiming for a college scholarship or just to be in shape, coach
Jeremy's pride is in helping you reach your goals and potential. Through words
of encouragement and killer workouts his goal is to make you a runner for life.
With a group of over 6 incredible assistant coaches, we have continued to
achieve excellence in youth distance running both at the local and national
USATF levels.
Outside Storm he coaches.., and enjoys training for all disciplines of
triathlon, and most importantly relaxing with his amazingly supportive wife of
16 years, and 4 kids!
Brian Rush - Distance
Brian grew up in San Fernando Valley, running cross country and track and
Monroe High School and then at UCLA in the 1980s, specializing in the long
distance events. He continues to run this day, mostly with his own kids and the
Storm kids. He is a USA Track and Field Level One Certified Coach, having
coached kids' running clubs in Santa Clarita since 2002, joining Storm Cross
Country in 2004 and Storm Track and Field in 2011. He has never been to a Justin
Bieber concert.
Andy Gallardo - Distance
Andy Gallardo is in his third year as a track and cross country coach for
Storm.
He has helped coach gremlin, bantam and midget age groups and works mainly with
the distance coaches.
In his full time job, Andy is the Director of Fitness for Kaiser Permanente
Southern California. His responsibilities include designing worksite initiatives
to encourage employees and physicians to lead a healthier lifestyle.
Coach Gallardo holds a BA in Political Science from Arizona State University and
an MA in Public Administration from the University of Southern California. He is
certified by National Academy of Sports Medicine in personal training, sports
nutrition and weight loss. He is also an associate member of the American
College of Sports Medicine. His specialties include group fitness instruction,
injury prevention, weight loss and sports training for youth and adults.
He lives in Valencia, CA with his wife Laura and their sons, Blake 11 and
Brady 9.
Mike Berretta - Distance
Mike began coaching with the Storm Cross Country and Distance track group in
2011. Mike ran track as a child, but transitioned to racing mountain bikes and
road bikes through his twenties and thirties. He continues to ride for
recreation, but now runs as a regular part of his exercise program.
Mike moved to the Santa Clarita Valley in 2000 and live with wife and two
daughters. His older daughter is swimming at Saugus High School and his younger
daughter, Kaela, is currently a second year midget in the distance group.
Mark Bingham - Distance
Mark begins his second year assisting with the distance program. Mark began
running at the age of 4, and his son followed in his steps by also starting at
the age of 4. Mark's cross country team at Canyon high school won state CIF
championships in 2001. Mark competed in Track & Field, Cross Country, Track bike
racing at the Encino velodrome, he competed in many youth triathlons. His PR in
the 1600 was 4:32, 800 was 2:01. Mark is very excited to be helping the
gremlin distance runners.
Mark now enjoys spending time with his son, fishing and and dirt bike
riding.
Ted Ng - Distance, & Team Photographer
Ted began his track career in high school specializing in the 3200m, 1600m, and
the long jump. He is currently team photographer for the Storm and assists with
the distance program. Ted has been involved with the Santa Clarita Track Club
since 2009 and currently has three children on the team. Ted commutes to work by
bike almost everyday and has a reputation for making excellent peanut brittle.
Jon Wadkins - Distance
Jon grew up in Southern Idaho and ran track in High School running the 110m and
300m hurdles, and 1st leg of the mile relay. Jon ran the 400m at The Simplot
Games the nation’s premier indoor track and field event for High School aged
athletes.
Jon started assisting Storm in Cross Country and the distance Team in Track when
his son
(Rylan) started running Cross Country in 2012 as a bantam. This past Cross
Country season Jon was the warm up coach for the Midgets boys post season team.
They placed 4th at the Junior Olympics Cross Country Championship in San Antonio
with Storm athletes running 8 of the 10 positions on the team. You will find Jon
running with the distance runners, especially on track night where he enjoys the
speed work.
Jon’s lovely wife Gin is the “StormWear” lady, selling all sorts of great Storm
logo items. Jon has 2 children; Rylan, a XC JO athlete, and Briella, a national
art contest winner.

Nathan Aina - Distance
Coach Aina is excited to be working with the distance groups again, in his 3rd
year with the Storm. He has played or coached sports all his life and enjoys
working with kids. His own preferred races as a runner were Half-Marathons. He
knows how important it is for kids to be active and excel in meaningful
activities like Track & Field. Coach Aina is a family man and loves time with
his wife and four children. He is an attorney for the federal government, loves
good fresh snickerdoodle cookies, has fun playing the violin, piano, or singing,
and is very active in his Christian faith.
Kathy Harlan - Distance
Mike Whitman - Distance
Mike ran track and was a wrestler in high school but focused mostly on mountain
biking and road biking through college. In 2009, when his oldest daughter
started running, he started coaching with the Storm Cross Country Team and has
continued with the Distance track group.
Mike moved to the Santa Clarita Valley in 1998 and lives with his wife, Susan,
and their six children, ages 3 to 17, who started running at Storm. With kids in
two high schools, a junior high, and in elementary school, Mike finds himself
running with amazing athletes at all levels. Mike also enjoys travel,
backpacking and hiking.

Peyton & Hayden. His love and interest for the sport grew as they have. Now he
