Dear Storm Family,

I would like to thank everyone who helped out with the mock meet, results are posted to our website hopefully you got an idea of what the meet will look like this weekend.

We are going to need a lot people to stick around and help clean up at the end, it takes a while to tear down the timing equipment and pack it up, and we will need help to move equipment to our storage unit across the street. If we could have a couple with trucks or vans able to return and assist with tear down that will help a lot.

The meet starts at 8:00 but not all athletes have to be there, unless they are going to run the 4x100 relay. All relay athletes must be checked in by 8:30. Any late athletes may not be assigned to a relay team or on the team best suited for them. All athletes who are going to compete in the first events of the day should arrive at 8:00 am, (Gremlin Long Jump, Youth Shot Put, Bantam High Jumpers, and all 3000 meter runners).

Click Here for the order of events (its a good idea to print that page and bring it with you). All other athletes are still welcome to pick up tags early. If an athlete misses an event they signed up for, they are free to try another event provided it hasn't already completed and as long as they don't over event (meaning compete in too many events for their age group) Limits explained later in news letter.

Again, we appreciate all the volunteers this past weekend.

This Saturday our track meet will be against the Northridge Pacers

Our First Track Meet
NOTE WE HAVE A LOCATION CHANGE DUE TO THE HIGH SCHOOL SCHEDULING ANOTHER EVENT. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME WE HAVE BEEN CANCELED FOR THIS MEET, AND WE WERE UNABLE TO SECURE A LOCAL LOCATION!!

Our first track meet will be this weekend hosting the Northridge Pacers at Granada Hills Charter High School.
Parking might be a problem, there are 3 small parking lots on the campus, but there is plenty of street parking round the school on the surrounding streets.

We will have catering provided by Hall Family Catering. So please be sure to bring some cash for the Concession stand, you won't regret it.

Setup starts at 6:30 am at the Track. We need lots of help with the setup, we meet at the Track,

We will need a few people to setup our staging area in the center of the field, that requires setting up benches for the kids to sit on during staging. a few pop up tents. We need parents to put the hurdles out for the start of the 80 meter Midget races.

Athletes this week will be signing up with their coaches what events they would like to do, Depending on the age of the athlete there are limits in how many events they can do each week. Sub-Gremlins & Gremlins are limited to a maximum of 3 events, everyone else is limited to 4 events maximum, but 1 event has to be a relay for Bantam through Youth, Intermediates 4th event can be an individual event (ie not limited to a relay), If you have any questions about the number of events please ask your coach. The conference has a very strict policy about over eventing, the athlete will be Disqualified in all events of the day if they compete in too many events at a meet.

Lap-a-thon
Our Lap-a-thon was March 8, You can download the  Pledge form by clicking here  or by visiting our website.

Our team will acknowledge those who raises the most funds and all participants in this event. A Grand Prize will be awarded to the top athlete who raise the most funds for the club.

If you were unable to participate that night, families are encouraged to OPT OUT by giving a tax-deductible donation of $40.00 payable to the SCTC. This is our major team fundraiser and requires everybody's support.

The due date to turn in the funds is April 7, 2016. Flat donations can be turned in immediately. Prizes will be awarded based on the most funds raised and turned in by April 7, 2016. Funds will still be accepted after that date but won't count towards the grand prizes, but will go towards the Storm Lap-a-thon acknowledgement prize.

If you have any questions about this fund raiser please talk to Mark, Elaine or Tom O'Sullivan.

Lost and Found
Parents, we have a lot of lost and found items that gets hung on the fence at practice. Please check it this week and every week. We have no place to store it. All items will be donated on Thursdays. Some of the jackets have been here since the first week.

Please check your child's Storm jacket as many have their name on it and the wrong one has been picked up. Also some athletes have lost their spike shoes at practice so please check to see if you have the right items.

Loaner Spike Shoes
We have a bin that has spike shoes in it, and we allow the kids to borrow any pair of spikes that fits them to use for the season. If your child has out grown last years spikes and you would like to donate them to the bin, please bring them and give them to Mark Cruz. Children needing spikes can check the bin for any pair that fits them.

We have 3/16" needle spikes for sale for $3.00 a set, (14 spikes). Please see Coach Elaine Bingham

Gremlins are not allowed to wear shoes that can accept spikes even if the spikes are removed.

After the 2nd call for a running event, check out with the field event judge and proceed to the staging area to check in for your running event. THINGS TO BRING TO A TRACK MEET
Water (lots of it)
Snacks (healthy ones) fruits, veggies, sandwiches, power bars, health bars, etc.
Sunscreen
Umbrella/canopy
Complete uniform
Games
Sweats/warm-up outfit
PowerAde/Gatorade (if desired)
Running Shoes/Spikes

THINGS TO DO AT A TRACK MEET

The first thing on arrival is to have your child find his or her age group coach. Check in with them to get the event tags they will be doing at that meet. Make sure they have their sweats on, it will be cool when they arrive.

Your child will need to be aware, at all times, of where his or her coaches are. Keep track of what event is being called ("First call, all Gremlin Girls 200 meters, Last call, all Midget Boys 1500 meters", etc). It is impossible for the coaches to know where thirty or forty athletes are.

Athletes must warm up before each event. Have them check with their coach on when they should report in for warm ups with their group.

As the day warms up, keep your athlete OUT OF THE SUN. Use lots of sunscreen, and have them drink plenty of water and drinks like Gatorade/Powerade. NO SODA!!. Soda depletes the body of fluids. Keep them relaxed and from running around. This is a good time to have them play cards or board games with a friend.

Sincerely,

Alan Bingham
