This week we will be going to the Valley United Striders Invitational meet at College of the Canyons. Click Here to download the meet flyer and schedule.  Please copy the event schedule so you will know the order of events. The top 8 athletes in the 100 and the 4X100 relay will return on Sunday to compete in a finals.

Medals are awarded at the meet to the Top 3 finishers in each event at the meet, with all others getting their ribbons at practice. This is the only time that all 15 teams will compete in an open meet. It is a very competitive event and not all athletes will enjoy it. It is a a great meet to get P.R.'s

Saturday will start promptly at 8:30 am and last until 6:00 pm. this is a very long day but you will not have to be there all day depending on the event you choose.

Sunday will start at 8:30 and be finished around 1:30 pm.

NO PARENTS OR COACHES ALLOWED ON THE FIELD. This will be an extremely competitive meet.
Please note there are restrictions in the amount of events each athlete can compete in.

Your child is limited to 2 individual events and a relay, or 2 relays & 1 individual event. Intermediates and the Young Division may compete in 3 Individual Events.

Field events are timed open pit, which means that athletes must compete within the time slots for that event.

ATHLETES WHO OVER EVENT WILL BE DISQUALIFIED FROM ALL THEIR EVENTS AT THE MEET.

This Week's Track Meet
We are away this week at College of the Canyons. (its almost a home meet however).

This meet is called an invitational meet, this is unlike any of the other conference meets. Each week the Conference host between 5 and 6 track meets, this week they host 1. All athletes are invited. there are over 2,200 athletes in the conference, fortunately many athletes are away this week for Spring Break. it is a 2 day meet and last year we ran until 7:00 pm, we are going to try to get done much earlier this year. We will be pushing to get the athletes through their events this weekend. Please download the event flyer above to see the schedule of events. The Field events are ran as an timed open pit, which means that athletes must complete their trials during the open time for their age group. They can check into those events and should try to not leave for other events, but in order to get the meet done, the running events take priority over the field events due to the nature of the timing.

We will need some volunteers at this meet  so please
Click here to sign up to volunteer, We will have fewer spots at this meets, all clubs pitch in to help. We will have a planning meeting Monday evening, so our list might change Tuesday morning. Please check back then.

I need to stress that Athletes can only do a max of 2 individual events!! they can add 1 relay to that for a total of 3 events. Please ask your coach if you have any questions about the number of events this week.

Scholastic Awards
In an effort to emphasize the importance of maintaining scholastic ability in conjunction with athletic ability, the Santa Clarita Track Club, Inc. in cooperation with local school districts, awards a Scholastic Achievement Medal to all active athletes that maintain a 'B+' (3.5) grade point average or better during the season. The medal is engraved with the student's name, year and symbol of the sport in which he/she is participating. A special President's Award Medal is presented to players that maintain straight A's.

The Deadline for turning in the form is April 15, 2016

Volunteer Opportunities
Attention all Storm Families:

Thank you to all that volunteered last week, as we truly appreciate your time and support!

This week will be an away meet, we won't need as many volunteers but we need to do our share of the field events.  Please be sure to sign up.

Relay Expectations
Many parents are asking how relays are determined, here is a brief description on how this is done. There were some very disappointed athletes at the meet because those who did not stay, or arrive on time for their team! Those who were there will defiantly be on a team this week.

It is very important to the team that if your athlete signs up for a relay that they are at the meet and checked in before 8:30 am so the coaches can assemble the teams. If your child is signed up for a relay and does not show up or is late, it will effect every other relay runner, and disappoint those who can not compete.

This is the only event that we are strict on signing up for. Please don't sign up for the relay if your athlete can not compete in the event.

Criteria for relay team assignment.
1) coaches discretion
2) attending practice
3) able to hand off smoothly
4) Time in the 100 metes at a meet

All of this is considered when coaches put together their teams (A-Team, B-Team, C-Team, etc...).

If you have any questions about this please speak with your age group coach or Coach Elaine

Communication Boxes
The communication boxes will be at the track on Monday and Tuesday this week for picture pick-up, and on Wednesdays & Thursday for your athletes meet ribbons.

Lap-a-thon
Our Lap-a-thon was March 8, You can download the Pledge form by clicking here or by visiting our website.

Here are the results.

Our team will acknowledge those who raises the most funds and all participants in this event. A Grand Prize will be awarded to the top athlete who raise the most funds for the club.

If you were unable to participate that night, families are encouraged to OPT OUT by giving a tax-deductible donation of $40.00 payable to the SCTC. This is our major team fundraiser and requires everybody's support.

The due date to turn in the funds is April 7, 2016. Flat donations can be turned in immediately. Prizes will be awarded based on the most funds raised and turned in by April 7, 2016. Funds will still be accepted after that date but won't count towards the grand prizes, but will go towards the Storm Lap-a-thon acknowledgement prize.

If you have any questions about this fund raiser please talk to Mark, Elaine or Tom O'Sullivan.

Sincerely,

Alan Bingham
